Marquee letters are large letters that you can either make yourself or buy at home goods stores or online. Traditionally, marquee letters were used in the 1930s and beyond to display the details of any night’s given performances at a venue or concert hall. They’re called marquee letters because they are letters that were displayed on the marquee of a concert hall or theater.
As such, marquee letters are often associated with times past and entertainment in general. They are vintage-style, cute crafts that actually can look good in any room you’re decorating. You just have to know what you’re doing with them. Here are a few ideas for decorating your room with marquee letters.
1. Write your name.
If you are at a loss as to what you can write with your marquee letters, writing your name out with the letters is always a good idea. Consider this for yourself in your own bedroom, or if you have children, write your child’s name out in marquee letters for their bedroom.
2. Announce the room’s purpose.
This might sound rather boring, but many designers use this tactic. If you are in the kitchen, for example, you might display “Eat” or “Dine” in marquee letters. In the rec room in the basement, you might display “Play” or “Fun.”
3. Use your initials.
If you don’t want to use number one and write your name in its entirety, you might still consider writing out your initials. For example, if your name is Samantha Jones, you might put an S and a J on the wall in marquee letters.
4. Decorate for a holiday or celebration.
Do you have a birthday coming up? Is Christmas near? Are you planning out a bachelorette party or a bridal or baby shower? If you are, consider using marquee letters to decorate the area. For example, if you’re going to have a baby shower for a friend or family member, you can set up the sweets or snacks table with marquee letters behind that say “Baby” or “It’s a Girl!” or “It’s a Boy!” This is a great way to make the baby shower look put together and planned out. It’s super cute!
